Which battery maintainer to purchase

I have a 73.5 911 with two lead-zinc wet-cell batteries connected in parallel. I would like to purchase a trickle-charge maintainer so the batteries don't discharge when the vehicle sits idle for 4-5 months over the winter. The cigarette lighter is OFF when the vehicle is not running. Porsche sells a "Pro-Battery Maintainer" that costs 2.5 times the CTEK MSX 5.0 Is there something different in the Porsche-branded unit that would justify it's higher cost (other than the Porsche name)? I don't want to spend more than I need to. Thanks, Fred

You should also consider the Battery Tender offerings....have used the successfully for years with my Porsches. I also have several CTEK units from PORSCHE in use, but if you're looking for the best bang for the buck, try the Battery Tender units.

Would it be better to buy two battery maintainers, disconnect the batteries from the car, and charge/maintain them independently over the cold winter months? Ofcourse, that means 2 times the cost. Fred

If you buy one, try to get one that will charge not only lead acid batteries, but the AGM style batteries. May need it to charge up an AGM battery one of these days & you'll be glad you have a compatible charger.

Few months back, Costco had Battery Tenders for $39. Picked up two. Work great. I had a cheap Harbor Freight tender for an old battery and it seems to work fine as well.

I have a GUEST two bank battery charger that maintains two batteries that are not connected to one another. Works like a champ and doesn't appear to over-charge.
I also have a CTEK that is used in the car when the batteries are installed. That works great too.
