Running electrical wire to engine compartment
 

I want to run a electrical wire from the cockpit back to the engine compartment for a command actuated [toggle switch] rear fog light.

First blush - use the hatch - tunnel and route the wire through there .

Anyone with experience in this area? recommendations ? warnings?

Look under the drivers side rear bumper, wires for the fog light are probably already hanging there.

White/Green wire behind rear defogger switch goes to the wires for the rear fog lamp.
Just switch power to it.

the existing wires are 40 years old - and have seen their best days _ I want to run fresh wire - protected with nice temp loom - just want some advice from someone who has routed some wire back to the engine compartment

Kim: I have done this exact job on my 78 sc. There was no factory wiring in place for the rear fog on my car. I did not want to drill any holes in the car to run wiring.My solution was to use 2 conductor trailer wiring which is covered in a gray weather proof sheath. Starting at the rear fog light, I ran the wiring inside the rear bumper to the passenger side of the car, then went along side the tin engine seals until I could pick up the ac hose. Using zip ties, I clipped the wire to the ac hose, tucking it well up inside so it is not visible. I followed the ac hose into the smugglers box. From the smugglers box you can get into the frunk. You can then get to the fuse panel to get a source of switched fused power.(Fuse no 5 was used). I also added an in line 5 amp fuse to protect the fog light circuit itself. I Ran the wire to a new switch through an existing grommet Just near the headlight switch. Peel the carpet back just a bit inside the car to see the grommet. In my case I needed a new switch on the dash to fill in hole left by the P.O. I used a Hella illuminated pull switch purchased from Pelican and bought a fog light decal for a BMW switch on eBay and burnished it onto the switch. Hopefully this helps you. ~ Karl
