HELP!!! -- engine sporadically drops idle below 400 RPMs
1983 911SC
Problem: engine starts and idles high (around 2000rpms) before warm up and then drops to ~1000 rpms when warm.... i drive it around for a half hour.... turn it off.... start it up- fine-.... then drive 20 mins to a place to park and the idle drops to below 400 rpms before i shut off the engine. Next time I restart the engine, it idles almost immediately down to 400 rpms. Sometimes when i try to get the rpms up by giving gas the engine sputters even more like it's struggling and then eventually I can get the rpms up there. Once i let go, it sinks down to 400. ------------------------------ My mechanic is having problems recreating the event and diagnosing it, costing me so far $1300 in repairs!! Repairs so far for this problem: 1) fixed cat converter connection with exhaust thinking the oxygen sensor was getting a bad reading. (this actually improved my acceleration in first and second gear) 2) fixed vacuum leak in airbox. 3) checked ignition timing (with strobe light...? i'm too dumb to understand) 4) checked fuel mixture and adjusted dozens of times. 5) rebuilt the alternator (battery light would not go off) HELP. |

Permanent fix...
Buy a Carrera and a DME relay.

hey my next is a turbo.
RIGHT AFTER this one gets fixed! :P too bad the '83s didn't have DMEs... or am I wrong? what is the equivalent of the DME on the '83 911SC? or better yet, what else could it be? |
