re-ringing alsuil

I have heard so many different opinions about this. What do you all think about re-ringing alusil....Basically i have a sc mototr that has been sitting for about ten years because a head stud broke. I have taken the engine down to the head and found out that i have alusil. So basically I am in a bind because i Don't want to shell out 3000 for a new set of p@c... Any thoughts on what i should do???

i've re-rung alusils with good results. they just have to be round, and not have scratches, scuffing, or their surface worn away in areas. you always take a small chance when re-using old pistons/cyls. either take the chance, or go new.

You might try posting this question to the 944/951 list, quite a number of those guys have re-rung with good results (944's are all alusil) as long as the cylinders are not damaged. Alusil, while not as highly regarded as nikasil, is a very tough surface, when I "redid" the head on my 951 (my fault not the engine's) at 100K there was virtually no discernable wear in the cylinder bores.
