Turn signals issue

Up until last week all of my turn signals worked without issue except that on the dash both R and L would flash when a signal was engaged. I had confirmed that the signals on the car's exterior worked properly when engaged (both sides and both front and rear).

Now when I signals either R or L, it shows a solid signal on the dash and on the exterior the lights engage but do not flash normally.

IMO, it is an electrical issue. I replaced the relevant fuse and nothing changed. I had replaced (or had a mechanic replace) the turn signal stalk and install relays 7-8 years ago and the return on the signal stalk never worked. The car has no other electrical issues (except a non-op clock) and drives great.

Any help? 1972 911T targa

I would check the grounds and the relays.

It is common for the older OEM flasher relays to have both turnsignal arrows light up. This was a safety feature back in the day to alert you that an exterior bulb is burned out. There is a secondary relay in the OEM flasher that would power a common connection of the turnsignal arrows in the tach. With proper current of two 21W turnsignal bulbs, the secondary relay would close and power the arrows.

Over time that secondary relay loses its efficiency and doesn't close to power the arrows. Sometimes you'll get one or 2 correct flashes and then both arrows flash. The Porsche 914 uses the same flasher relay.

About the flasher not flashing at all, unless a fuse is burned or wiring issue, it seems like the OEM flasher has died.

There is a common flasher on the market (EP26) which is pin-compatible and LED-compatible as well. They can be found on Rock Auto, Autozone, etc. However the stock EP26 does not connect the wire which goes to the arrows. The internal connection in EP26 is simple to do. I resell the EP26 with the C2 pin grounded for use in the 914 and 911.

Great. How much shipped to Toronto for the relay?
