Engine hood locking mechanism

I have an ‘86 911 and the engine hood no longer latches Is this something To adjust (Maybe related to the cable?)or is this a need to replace the part?

Saw your other post on this but that relates to the rear lid. Both locks used to be the same but I think that now front lock no longer opens automatically when the cable breaks. This means that if the cable breaks you have to start drilling a hole somewhere so be careful what you do. You need to ask advice on front lock adjustment.

It is the rear engine hood

It could be the cable adjustment. It is designed to release if the cable breaks, so if it is too loose or too tight it could be on the verge of releasing and as you drive could work its way open.

However when I got my 84 I was having a very similar issue, but in my case it was just that the mechanism was sticking. I just shot it with a little lube and it has worked perfectly ever since.

Thank you! That seems to be what I am finding, either lube or adjust the spring.
