Ignition query

Can anyone clear up an issue i THINK i may have?
On my 82 930 when i turn my igntion key to position 1 both fuel pumps run continuosly but when i turn to pos 2 they switch off......then at pos 3 when starting the engine they run again as normal and are fine once the motor is running.......is this wrong??
i had the car for a few months before i spent 3 years restoring it and cant for the life of me remember if it was the same before i dismantled it......i did in the process of the resto throw away the alarm/immobiliser system as it was a PITA
whats your car do??

You could try the 930 forum, they are pretty active over there.

Possibly having the cold start plug and the airflow sensor plug mixed up.
Meter the cold start connection to the left rear chain box cover temp sensor to confirm the connection.

i did look at this initially as i thought it may be the case.however when i looked at the loom i thought it may have been physically difficult to get this wrong .....i didnt test with a meter so maybe i ought just to be 100%
