In the pits at Pacific Raceway with SOVERN
At one time today the world domination plot was working as we had 6 SC's lined up ready to take over Pacific Raceways. Harlan was there and a bright blue Coupe with Ruf wheels. Other SC's were scattered about....typically it looked like everyday drivers for the race crowd. I am sure Mark will post an update on "808 the orange S" and the Emory crew (great people BTW) later, but man the 356s are soooooo cool! (and darn fast too!!)
We (The SCs of course) were the best looking group around....even with just the two of us that were left ![]() ![]() But these are cool even if it isn't a Porsche ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But the best comes last: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was agreat day...and no rain! Anyone have time for a half day of lapping May 6th?
Be fun to do some driving in together if any of you have the time. Looked like Mark was holding up well with all the hot shoes in that group running 1.30s. I had to wonder what Goodman's 427cu inch Vette sounded like coming up behind you ![]() |

Had to wonder that myself with 4 Vettes, 3 Cameros and a Mustang all running big V8s along with that beautiful GT 40. There were 11 late '60s ('65/'69) 911s with 1900 to 2000ccs in the same group. 25 cars total in that race.

They only had 4 run groups due to the smaller early year turnout, so they had to mismatch cars.
Yeah, those big vettes were scary coming up in the rearview mirror. Bruce Levan, former pro Prosche 962 driver, was leading the pack in his 64 Vette, turning 1:38's to my 1:54's! They were loud as a jet when they went by!

Gary, I would also like the high res uncropped versions of those photos if possible. Looks like they would make great wallpaper. Nice pics, vivid color, great composition. smasraum@swbell.net, or if you would rather post them someplace whatever is best for you.
Thanks

OK, here is a video clip taken from the same spot as Glenn's photos. A couple of interesting things to note (besides my line sucks):
As you come up the hill from the valley, just before the hard turn in to drivers left, there is a dip in the pavement (between the last two cones). Watch the front ends of the cars and you can see the suspension unloading. This dip makes this one of the most difficult parts of the course, too much speed and you'll spin in the turn becuase the suspension isn't loaded. In the second clip watch how fast Levan's red Vette and the other one close in on me. I could see them coming and new they would catch me in these three hard turns. My wife was shooting the video and she said it scared her to death - ahh gee honey, you should of seen it from my rearview mirror!!! 6.3 mb Video

Wow, sweet video! Modern race cars are very cool, but nothing compares to the sound of the classics!!
Man, those vettes were closing in pretty quick, and with the front ends that look like a gaping mouth. I bet it was scary.

![]() ![]() Mark, yes, there was a Carrera among us but he must be a convert. I had brought my professional camera stuff with me but the film that I had with me required brighter sunlight (ASA100) So I will take better pictures of you at the July 4 SOVERN races.
