Porsche Crest '87 Cab Advice

I'm looking at an '87 Cabriolet that's got condensation inside the gauges. Though theres no sign of rust anywhere, there's a puddle of water in the drivers side floor pan. Leaky seals. I've seen work receipts from a local Porsche shop that replaced the seals, but with the condensation issue, my first instinct is to run away...

I can handle anything mechanically, but electrical work drives me nuts. Anyone think I'm writing the car off too soon?

Hmmmm. The DME controller (computer) is on the floor beneath the drivers seat. Wonder how many times it's been marinated in rain water? Might be worth checking out.

Had similar water probl;ems on my 3.2 Cabrio - which seals had the Porsche Shop replaced.

The carpet along the centre tunnel ( along side the gear shift ) was wet on mine - so guess either water was entering through the side and flowing over the floorpan 'til it hit the gear tunnel - so am in the porcess of resealing the doorcards with new ( re glued ) membrane behind.

or it was coming in through the base of the windscreen / the fresh air intake vent area?

The cab roof seals are easy to check to see if they have been replaced, they shouldn't look worn. Also check the hood seal to ensure that it has no holes or tears.

I agree with the Hippo - check the fresh air vent, there is a rubber connector at the bottom D/S that should go into the vent hole, if this has come adrift water could go anywhere.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna take a pass on this one. Especially with the DME sitting in a puddle...

Had one memorable occasion when a control unit went out while cruising on the highway...result of long ago (or not so long ago...) moisture saturation. Not an event I want to repeat.
