need help with ignition upgrade

I've installed a crane hi-6 in my 77 911 and now have lots of spark.

I installed it according to the instructions and I didn't use any of the factory wiring (it was all cracked and brittle).

problem is...it wont start.

I've figured out that I'm not getting any flow through my injectors.

I jumped the fuel pump relay and lifted the air flow sensor plate the fuel pump runs but no flow through the injectors.

since I didn't do anything to the original wires I plugged my permatune cd unit in and BAM I get flow, she starts!

I don't really want to leave the permatune there since there is no room to mount it now.

so what do I do to make the CIS system think it's there?

and why should it need to think it's there. what is powered by the permatune?

We can't see what year your car is, but it shouldn't make that much difference. If you ran the fuel pump and lifted the sensor plate, then there should be virtually no way for the injectors NOT to spray.

Thats what I thought.

now that I think of it though, why does the permatune box buzz when the sensor plate is lifted.

how does it know when that happens?

let me guess, with your new ignition, the pump doesn't run..do you hear it whining?

There is a contact switch on the front of your air venturi (toward the fire wall), right about where you sensor plate rest. It is a do hicky that cuts fuel off when the motor dies.

Yeah...when I jump the fuel pump relay and turn the key to the run position I hear the pump in the front of the car run.

but when I lift the sensor plate I don't hear the whine in the engine compartment.

when I plug the permatune box back in i get the whine

how do I get the whine back without the permatune box

any ideas?

Alan, I don't have a clue, but I sure would like to know myself. (Time to hit the books again :( )

Somehow it has to be wired through your new ignition. Contact Permatune.

Come to think of it, my 2.7 had a Permatune, and now my fuel pump is always on! I'm not sure that safety circuit works anymore. The PO may have just by-passed it up at the pump relay. I don't have to jumper it like all my manual tells me to do when I trouble shoot my CIS.

Are you using the Crane pickup and box or just the pickup? If you are using just the pickup I may be able to help.

I'm using the crane HI-6S Ignition box pn; 6000-6300
and the optical trigger pn; 715-0020 and install kit 700-2231

any help?

You may try to make the pickup work with the PT and then try to substitute the Crane box latter. Connect the power wire from the pickup to the B terminal of the PT and connect the trigger wire to the A terminal of the PT. Connect the C terminal of the PT to the coil + and the coil – to ground. Test the engine to see if it runs, if it does, connect the tachometer to the trigger wire pin A and see if that works. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference between the Crane and PT box.
