How does the oil filter work, it's so high up??

Does anyone have a cross section of an oil tank? The oil filter seems so high up, just curious how it all works. Is it just an 'empty tank' or does something force oil into the filter?

It's the Druck.

Oil flows from the tank to the inlet of the oil pressure pump. From there it flows to the bearings, cam, and piston squirters to lubricate the motor. Oil falls to the sump and is pushed by the oil scavenge pump to the thermostat, through the oil cooler if warm enough, and then to the oil filter. It exits the filter into the tank.

Oil return to oil tank.........

The oil from the engine sump is picked up by the scavenger pump and delivered to the auxiliary thermostat. The oil is diverted to auxiliary cooler or direct to the oil tank depending on the oil temperature.

The oil line from the auxiliary thermostat is connected to the lower section of the oil tank. What you don’t see is the oil tube inside the oil tank that brings the oil to the oil filter mount. From here, the oil enters the oil filter from the outer side of the filter paper. The core or center of the filter delivers the filtered oil back to the oil tank or oil reservoir.

Some pictures to help you visualized how the oil circulates inside the oil tank. Hope this helps you.

Nice explanation and the cutaway shows why the sender bounces when the pressurized oil splashed on it

This is a diagram of the oil flow in your 911:

Note there are two circulation loops.

They are as follows when at operating temperatures:

Scavenge Side: From the engine sump, through the scavenge side of the pump (if equipped, to the external oil cooler), through the filter and into the tank.

Pressure side: From the tank, into the pump, through the engine mounted cooler, to the cams, crankshaft, carrera tensioners and into the engine sump.
