No more windshields ?

This may belong in the parts section but I'm interested in how this came to be as well.
-
I'm in need of some windshields for 73, 77 and 83 911 cars and have been notified that as of last year only the Chinese (horrible fitment) windshields are available.
-
If anyone has them or knows where I can purchase German windshields - please let me know
-
Thank You

Funny you bring this up. I had one done on the Island last year by safelite glass. I’m also looking for one for my 83. I guess it’s not surprising with covid companies are not making them. Where have you looked?

I reached out to a couple of independent glass shops and they both told me that the German glass company was purchased by a Chinese firm and was shuttered. This leaves the cheap Chinese windshields as the only option available right now.

Have you tried the dealer? When I checked with my local dealer they could still special order the windscreen for my '84, which I would think is identical to the '83.

Are you looking to install yourself or have it done?

Yeah, the all clear windshields are the only ones still currently available and cost just under $1-k . . . . which all said and done may be the way I'll be going.

The 1984 windshield is still available and was the transition windshield that has the antenna built into it. Also an option

I’m going out east tomorrow to bring home my 83. I’ve got 2 places that said they can do it. If you want I will ask for you. Mine has a huge chip in it and is going through insurance. Last years window on my 86 was a sekurit window. Installed the insurance paid $600. Tinted and antenna.

Who says?
I've used already 2 of the Chinese made aftermarket windshields and know of others using them too, because they are a bargain AND THEY FIT PERFECTLY !

there is ONE downside to the quality: they are not polished from the inside.
But the price is 3-4 times lower than an OEM shield

There is no German glass firm doing these.
it's all StGobain (France) or Pilkington (UK)
wheras they have production in Chez Republic, Italy and Slovenia

The word SEKURIT is not a manufacturer, it is make code for glass that shatters (bits) and not rips (like home windows)

The 84 has a fender mounted antenna. The windshield should be identical to your 83.

The windshield antenna didn't start till 85. I had to replace my passenger side front fender on my 84, and the new fender wasn't drilled for an antenna, so I replaced my windshield with a 85+ antenna windshield and added the required antenna booster from an 85. I personally like the cleaner look of the antenna windshield.

Sunset Porsche has P/N 911 541 011 26 (tinted, not heated, no antenna) for $683. I didn't see if they had the green tint, which should be 911 541 011 05.
