noise from condenser fan 1987 Carrera
 

I have a slight noise from the condenser fan. It is not audible with the engine running. I only heard it because i turned the ignition switch to on and had left the ac switch on.
I have no experience with this but was told by a shop it needs to be replaced. Will this thing frag and do any damage if I run it? thanks

First off, be SURE it has a fuse. From the factory, that motor was NOT fused. Most cars have had the update, and Pelican even sells a fuse add on kit. More than a few 911s burned to the ground from that motor.

Once you know it is fused, you are safe from real problems. Most likely it will just freeze up, and the motor will have to be replaced. It is not a serviceable motor. You can pull it apart, and oil the bearing, and it will be quiet for a little while, but it will start acting up again.

If you look at the wires going to it, and see no fuse, unplug it, until you get a chance to fuse it.

Start looking for the replacement motor. You will need one. Just take it apart, and the motor is fairly easy to swap, but it is rather pricey.

Do you have this "fuse add-on kit" link or part number - could not find it. Im sure mine does not have it - its pretty unmolested.

Thank you 1989Carrera. I went to order one and the pelican part to do the fix said. 87 came Came fused fused but mine wasn’t I went and looked unless the fuse on 87 is hidden somewhere else so I looked up the wiring diagram fo 87 and they did not show it as fused so I ordered one?

I'm glad you went ahead and ordered one. They did not start fusing them until the 964 came out.
