Oil Change Funnel
Spills, drips, mess. I couldn't take it anymore. Tonight was her scheduled oil change and with my recent decision to use 5 qt. Jugs, a modification was in order. That green sheet is a flexible cutting board. It was cut to fit the standard yellow radiator fluid funnel. I attached it with gutter screws. It's not pretty, but it works. Also... always nice to not find anything ferrous attached to the magnetic drain plug.

Here's mine for that screw on filler, mostly for 964s due to their slow fill for the last 5 quarts.

I used a 40 year old offset funnel similar to the one John posted for almost 9 years with my '84 Carrera. Finally gave up and replaced the Carrera with a '72 911T with external oil filler. Problem solved!
![]() ![]() Well, the oil filler wasn't really why I bought the '72. But it's a nice side benefit. ![]()

I know this is a bit of a thread hijack...does anyone have tips when removing plug on engine cases with no sump plug but only side mounted plug? In my set up, the B&B heater boxes are pretty close to the side drain. I always end up mocking up a “curtain” for the oil to hit as it gushes out. Never a clean job...

Drain tank and engine, leave the tank plug off, put a pan under the tank, loosen oil filter to just hand tight, punch a hole at 12 p'clock and use a rubber tipped air gun to blow the oil out of the filter, into the tank for about a minute. No mess.

This would make a nice 3D printer project for someone with the initiative. The perfect 911 funnel, I'd buy it.
Been using the one in post #7 for years. Works fine but slow.

This is what you need to do. Bigger than AJDs. AJs was more popular. We ended up developing them at the same time.

This was my solution that I take with me on road trips to add oil. It all fits into a zip lock bag and does not make a mess. The blue part comes free with aviation oil that we buy by the case. I can put the cap on, and stuff a paper towel in the top, and place in the zip lock bag and no mess for road trips. No glue will stick to that plastic very well, so I reinforced the epoxy with the electrical tape. It is small and compact and that is a real bonus on the road. ![]() Pelican sell this little tray. It uses a magnet to stay in place. The oil stays in the tray and is easy to sop up with a paper towel. It is form fitted to fit perfectly in place and it works. I have a long funnel that works great for regular oil changes in my garage.

Guy over on Rennlist posted a thread just yesterday on this funnel at Walmart that's just over $1. It's sold as a funnel for DEF, but looks like the shape would be perfect for the 911 oil fill neck. It was recommended on Rennlist for the 997TT models.
