Audio Upgrade
Hey all,
I have the stock head unit (Reno 46) and stock speakers in my 87 Carrera. The speakers are all shot, I have been getting that lovely paper crackling sound since I bought the car back in March. I also have a Bluetooth tapedeck that works really well, and the sound quality(through these bad speakers) is as good or better than the radio. I have ordered some Focals for the front, and plan on throwing those in first, and then will do one of two things: 1) replace the rears with Focals and run an amp to both Front and rears for better sound 2) Run focals up front, remove rear speakers, and install a compact sub/amp under the passenger seat. Id like to keep the stock headunit - for what I need the bluetooth tape deck works great and I get to keep my stock blaupunkt. Is anyone running just Speakers up front, no speakers in the rear and a sub under the seat with a stock head unit? I would need to wire up some type of Line out converter when I add in the sub. |

I've recently installed a Clarion M508 deck, Focal separates in the doors and a small Kenwood powered sub under the passenger seat.
Focals are amazing. The detail and staging is perfect. I really don't hear a need for rears. The sub was added after the initial install. the 5.25 weren't adding any lows. If I had it to do over, I would add a Focal Ibus 2.1 under the passenger seat, run the fronts off this amp and the slightly larger powered sub would be perfect. |

That’s a good looking head unit. I think what I could do is get one 6 channel amp, bridge the two channels to a slimline sub under the seat and run the other channel to the front Focals. I am going to see how just the focals sound and go from there. Easy to add on a powered sub or add in another amp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
