Do you guys really not drive your cars????

Every time I browse the technical forum, I read a post (or several) about someone who only puts 500 miles a year on their car...or 2000 in 18 months...or some similarly miniscule value.

I've put ~6000 miles on my car since I got it running in April of this year.
Heck, I drove it to work today.
I drive it everywhere I can unless it's pouring rain. (no defroster...or heat...or AC)

I can't tell if reading about cars clocking <1000 miles a year makes me sad or angry.

Please discuss.

Oh yeah, everyone hates threads without pics, so here's some of my priceless baby.

I drive mine all the time.

In fact I took it out in the pouring rain the other day to give the underside aa good clean. It lives at the beach so it's nice to wash the salt off.

The more I drive it the better it goes. My car is certainly not being saved for the next guy.

I drive it

Mine certainly isn't priceless. Probably similar to yours in the hotrod category. I also avoid heavy rain, but not because I don't want to mess up her delicate undercarriage, but I also have no air/AC or heater of any kind right now. Unfortunately I live near Seattle so it's raining most of the time during the winter.

I just recently finished up a longer-than-it-should've-been 915 to 930 transmission conversion...

My car was my daily driver for over 30 years. I commuted in it to work most days, about a 30 minute drive. For the past 15 years I regularly auto crossed and DE'd it.

I still drive it as often as possible, but being retired and with the pandemic that doesn't amount to many miles now. In a sense my car is out to pasture.

The Porsche scene is full of new fan boys more worried about value than enjoyment of these quirky old cars. Sad...

'79 Targa with 107K miles, 75K of them mine in 34 years of ownership, so apprx 2200 mi/yr of my doing. Would likely drive it more, but NY roads suck, and she goes into the garage Nov --> April due snow/ice/salt. I have no hesitation driving it in the rain - it has wipers .
I'll drive it to work on occasion when the sun is out (i.e. Targa top off).

And I'll look for excuses at other times to just putz around in it. Family needs limited it in terms of practical opportunities to drive extended distances, but a long trip is in the planning stage as we are almost empty nesters; I have full confidence in it.

I drive the fun cars as much as I can, but am limited by time more than anything else. Hopefully next season I'll be able to rack up some track days as intended.

As long as the weather is good I take mine out for a drive every weekend.

I put 1,500 miles on it on three seperate round trips to the mountains in Western NC last month.

A look from the wife, a laugh from my buddy, roll backward down the drive in neutral, cut the wheel down hill and roll start through the intersection and we’re off. Didn’t give it a second thought, just parked up hill the rest of the weekend.

Like Matt, I have a few cars, all of them old. I also spend considerable time away from where they're garaged, traveling for fun or living in other places for the winter or summer. As a result, these cars get driven while I'm where they are, which is to say maybe 4 or 5 months a year.

So I drive them only a few thousand miles a year. Divide that by 3 or 4 cars, and you get the idea.

I'm not 'saving' them. I'm just not there much to drive them.

I can only drive on car at a time.

If I'm not towing I'm always behind the wheel of a P car.

Miles are irrelevant.... I do around 45k a year on multiple cars of different vintage.

No.... I'm not saving anything for the next owner.

I do not drive as much as I would like;

1. Bad Back
2. Terrible roads locally
3. Terrible drivers everywhere
4. 3 Grandsons that take up a lot of time
5. 12 hr days
6. Home maintenance
7. Hard to find a co-pilot
8. Covid restrictions in the spring
9. Loss the hearing in my right ear.
It has been getting harder to get out for a Sunday jaunt.

I drive my car at least once per week. I’m not driving more than that. As I work on the car I have a rule, any task I undertake must be completed in several days so I can drive. Since my car leaks and the wiper is broken, I often don’t drive it during the winter rainy season. Instead I drive my Cayman.
