Should I replace the FP based on looks alone? Is this the original FP? AFAIK it works ok but looks like it could croak at any moment.

What are the red pieces under the steering rack? You can also see them in the second picture above. They do not look to be original.

The spacers look like a bump steer kit usually fitted when you lower the front end below standard. Your fuel pump doesn’t look like it is properly mounted, which I would look at. If you’re happy to spend the money it won’t do any harm replacing the pump

Funny. I lowered the front end a few weeks ago to make the car look better. Odd that a PO put in a bumpsteer kit and then did not lower the front.

Is there supposed to be a bracket for the FP? Mine looks like it is attached with a hardware store band clamp and zip ties. I will do some research. Anyone got a photo of a properly mounted FP?

What year is the car? It looks like the fuel pump may have been relocated to the front. Not a bad thing. If it is working I would leave it alone.

Interesting. I have been through the car extensively and this is the first Ive known
that there was an alarm on it at one time.

Can you tell if this is the factory alarm horn or an aftermarket?

If you haven’t already, pull the fuel filter and use tin snips to cut it open to check for rust. Then pull the gas tank sender to look inside for rust.

For the alarm, check drivers door for a key slot.

I would just replace that pump on sight alone, but I just finished replacing every fuel line on my car. Welcome to the club. ;)

Items 22-30 are what you need to correctly mount the pump, it’s bolted through the aluminium cross-member in your picture and has rubber mounts. Maybe the car was lowered previously and a subsequent owner raised 5he suspension and didn’t know to remove the spacers?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603107870.png

Thanks Ian. Just now ordered new FP, bracket, mounts, check valve and fuel filter. The fuel lines look ok from underneath but I will check those as well on disassembly.
Hate to replace the FF already as its probably got only 500 miles on it but I read it was the best to do it with a FP change. I will keep it as a spare. Looks like a fun day project.

Agreed. A pump that looks like that is begging to be changed. Parts on order.

Not sure of the micron rating of the internal tank filter element, but a common mod is to add a micron rated fuel filter between the pump inlet and tank outlet.

When I got the car a year ago one thing I noticed was that the battery or previous one had leaked pretty badly. Cleaned all that up, new battery etc. Now looking at the FP (see picture above and below) I wonder if some of that got into the FP compartment. I had to dremel cut the very corroded clamp off because the screw mechanism had disintegrated. Notice one of the bracket mounts was shot. Glad I had ordered new ones from PP already.

It looks like the factory alarm and is in the right locvation. Check the rear top edge of the driver door for the alarm switch

No switch or key slot.
