Scart Exhaust

Anyone here have a scart supersound riva exhaust?
I’m really considering buying it for my 3.2 carrera.
I checked some sound clips on there website.
The sound is intoxicating!

Any insights would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Antonio

I purchased a SCART Riva muffler for my 1986 3.2 a couple of months ago. My car has a Dansk cat eliminator pipe also so I didn't purchase the SCART pre-muffler. My expectations for the SCART muffler were high (along with the price) but I'm sad to say that I took it off after a couple of weeks.

It's hard to describe sounds and everyone has their own taste so I'll do my best to describe my entire exhaust saga in the hopes that maybe someone on this board could recommend something else. Along with the OP, I listened to many different videos in an attempt to find that perfect sound but after two mufflers now I've determined that normal Youtube videos played back on a normal sound system are not good in transmitting the real sound of an exhaust. I think you would probably need a Hollywood recording system and a Dolby surround playback to really get a true representation of what an exhaust actually sounds like.

My first muffler was a M&K MKM33 single inlet, single out. I really liked it at first but it lost its appeal after a while. It's probably 40% louder than stock and has a bit lower overall tone. You might say that it makes a 3.2 flat six sound more like an American V8. It definitely has a more aggressive sound than the stock muffler but after a while I started looking for something that brought out the symphonic sound of the flat six we all love.

The SCART Riva had more of a "European" sound that was a little higher pitched but it was quite a bit louder than the M&K. It was actually so loud that I became concerned that my neighbors were going to hate me more than they already do so I took it off and went back to the stock muffler. To be fair, SCART recommends that you use their pre-muffler which replaces the Cat with a slightly muffled chamber but I didn't think that was going to change the sound a lot so I put it on the shelf. Actually, I'd sell it at a good discount if you're interested. It's almost brand new.

The stock muffler gives the beautiful note everyone loves but there just isn't enough of it. At this point I'm seriously considering installing SSI's along with a 2 inlet, 2 outlet muffler in an attempt to get that classic sound but I haven't worked up the courage to attempt to break loose those factory exhaust studs yet. Once you start cracking those open, you're committed no matter how much work it takes. I talked to Brian at M&K about some tuned headers also and I might end up going that route although they aren't cheap. He said people "usually" don't have problems with breaking off exhaust studs inside the heads... usually.

Do NOT go dual outlet if you are concerned about noise levels. Not one known to man is going to fit " not make neighbors mad" criteria.

Check out the set up from Eisenmann in Germany. It is heat exchangers with 39mm internal diameter and a 2 in - 2 out muffler with great sound and it is TÜV certified for sound level.
This set is for the 3.2 Carrera but fits great on a 3.0 SC also. On the 3.2 it gives more power and torque AND more of that nice Porsche sound.

On my 911

On display at Eisenmann factory

Dyno paper showing increased power and torque.

Thanks for the info. I think i like the european high pitch exhaust note of the flat 6 engine. That’s what made me chose the Scart. I’ll give it a try.
I sent you a Pm.

I bought my Scart riva muffler and the racing pre-muffler after hearing one locally on a 3.2. That guy had the 100 cell cat from Scart and I think it toned it down because I don't remember his being that loud. Martin at Scart talked me into the racing pre muffler and riva muffler. The sound is intoxicating but after a while, a little too loud. I still like the sound so I may try another one of their pre-mufflers to quiet it down a bit and keep everyone from wanting to race my little 3.2. Supersignman's neighbors can blame me for keeping them awake.

Antomero - I'm a big fan of the M&K active premuffler (I bought the catalyst version because my car needs to be smog-compliant-tested) - it has a vacuum-actuated valve that opens during acceleration/spirited driving that allows a fair % of the exhaust gasses to bypass the muffler entirely -- M&K ships it with a sound arrester that allows a fair bit of my 3.4's glorious sound to make itself heard (I'm still running my too-quiet stock factory exhaust behind it) and I haven't yet removed the sound arrester to hear the active exhaust's true "straight pipe" sound (Brian at M&K states that the arrester doesn't really affect power when installed). What's nicest to me is that it's only loud when I want it to be (when accelerating) and doesn't drone or otherwise "misbehave" when I don't want it to (when cruising at a steady speed or idling).

I like reading about the scart options on their website but it appears that some details are lost in translation or at least they are for me. But they state that....

“For these cars, the muffler gives 80% of the sound (the remaining 20% comes via the pre-muffler). We offer 3 different mufflers for this car in order to satisfy all your tastes.”

It would appear you could quiet your ‘riva’ 20% with a good resonator cat replacement pipe.

Exactly, I currently run a stock exhaust system on my 3.2. I’m thinking the Scart Riva with stock catalytic will be perfect. Wish me luck! Just ordered a new Scart, it’s coming from France.

It’s sound just perfect. Not intrusive whatsoever.
I would say it’s a period correct sound. If that makes sense.
Highly recommended... go for it!

To those who wanted to hear what the SCART Riva sounds like on a 3.2 see below. The stock cat was partially clogged so went with an OBX bypass temporarily until Im up for a smog test. The cold start was taken with a cell phone and the acceleration was taken with a gopro (since it was mounted so far behind the muffler the whine of the G50 is louder than the exhaust).
