An ngk plug problem
 

I had a miss today actually was sporadic. I checked my plugs and found this on #4.
Maybe 5000 miles on them. Rusted and fell apart as i pulled it out had to remove the valve cover to retrieve. Was relieved it did not fall into the spark
How would it rust?

Possibly cracked on install is my guess. Easily done - especially on a 911.. I have fitted literally thousands of NGK plugs and found them to be one of the most reliable without a doubt. Probably the only other equal or better is Nippon Denso but lack the range.

The NGK's I took out of my S10 pickup were rusted on the outside, but I had them in there probably twice as long as I should have (8 years?). I don't drive but 7,000 miles a year.

I did split on removal the trouble one behind the steering column, but it was solid inside.

First poster is probably correct, but I've never seen that before because the Porsche gets new plugs every other year.

I installed them Maybe 3 years ago and use An older (1975) porsche spark plug wrench. Maybe the rubber In the tool allowed the plug to fall out back. I think I’ll play the lottery since it did not fall into the cylinder

Easy to break a spark plug using a typical 13/16" deep socket. Apply excessive side force and the porcelain cracks. Atmospheric elements then take over to corrode the exposed electrode stem. Spark plug sockets typically have a rubber cushion to prevent contacting the porcelain insulator.

As a PSA, there are NGK knock offs out there. Got to buy from a reliable source, not Amazon.

My old S10 plugs with a match wedged in there showing how nice and shiney they should be if you crack one open.

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to remove that S10 steering column and get that last plug without destroying an old spark plug.

Look's like your plug gap isn't big enough.

I did Find another broken one. I use the porsche Spark plug tool,, torque them properly and buy from pelican or known supply houses. Ive used bosch and even champions, without any being btoken since 2002 when i first changed them. Perhaps i am snapping them when putting on the wire?
