I've all but worn out my Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.
They're weird - outside tread still pretty good but the centre of the tread is a bit of a worry, almost slick! In another post: Help. Sounds like .....? I'm experiencing a speed related rumble. Consensus is possible "wheel bearings but change the tyres first". The local "Tyrepower" mob says the Eagle F1 tyres are known to "rumble" with an uneven tread wear. Hmm, is that right? Well they're knackered anyway, so what tyres choice would you blokes go for? I don't track the car. My habits are pretty normal for Porsche driving - mostly urban commute but like to challenge the twisty bits with confident wet and dry grip. I don't like noisy tyres - aggressive tread and these F1's have only lasted 20000 K's! Yeah I know, I'll have to compromise a bit on that for grip. TIA.

Everyone told me to get Bridgestone S03s for a 16" wheel. So I got Pirelli p7s (a new version) after the tyre guy talked me into it. I think the only performance difference is probably in my wallet!

Cam...I'm thinking of the P-7 (new version) for my car...when and IF USA pointy headed bureaucrats say they are okay to sell here. I'm stuck with 195/65 to get the look I want...yours were 16's, but a general review, wet/dry/noise, etc. would be appreciated here...BTW, have a happy wedding day!

I am on a second set of Falken GBS-RS Tune IIs. They arent the sexiest looking tyre- but I got 10+ track days and 20k out of the first set, whcih I was very impressed with. On the track they never seem short of grip, on the road they are are not noisy. Victor had the same things by coinicidence and was equally impressed. He has now put on the Falken Azina which is an R tyre (although not labelled one)
There are two versions of the GBS-RS Tune II, make sureyou get the right one. They are cheap too, about $200 a corner for 205 and 225 16s stuart

CamB, thanks. I'm getting a price on the Bridgestone and P7s but I'm told they're pricey.
Stuart, thanks too. Yeah Falken is what the local Tyrepower mob reckon too, but which GBS-RS Tune IIs version do I ask for? Price is right, but I think they said Falken 512. What are they? So you're on your second set. Good enough. So why did Victor change to the Azina?

Thanks Paul! The serious planning is beginning... July 5 (it will be 4 July in the US due to time differences now I think about it...) here I come
![]() I don't think I can really give an objective rating on the tyres. They aren't particularly aggressive (even in 205/50R16 size) - by aggressive I mean sporty or harsh - and I haven't noticed that they are noisy so they must be ok. They are heaps better than the cheapish 195/60R15 Continental's they replaced (an H rated tyre). But I changed the shocks too, and stiffer springs... Sorry! Not much of a review.

Thanks Cam...it's getting tough to find any kind of performance tire that fit's 15" wheels and have the same dia. as original. Your input is appreciated. Getting married in the winter...good for cozy nights at home. Smart man!

Falken GBS-RS Tune IIs or Falken Azina
Well I should have quoted my rim size - the above don't come in 215 for the rear (so I'm told)
![]() Oh well. Think I'll go the YOKO AVS ES100s Price is okay too - $165 each at the front and $175 each at the rear. Gets pretty good points for performance.

Victor changed to the Azina in a pathetic attempt to go faster. I used a set on a WRX for tehn GP rally- they used to carry an R rate. They no longer do, but they look the same tyre to me. They are not regarded as being as good as the Dunlop or Yoko Rs. But they are cheaper, and are basically an R tyre.
If that YOKO AVS ES100 is the tyre i think it is, be aware that the SO destryed a set in 10ks on a MX5! Doesnt get much lighter or underpowered that that. They were great oin the track though. stuart

Hi Sean
I have just put a set of SO3's on my A4 (with sports suspension) which I am very happy with. Bridgestone have a higher performace tyre, again, which is basically a grooved slick that I will probably go to in a couple of months. While your at it go the 930 tie rods and 4 wheel alignment. I've just done this and adjusted the ride height, resulting in dramatically better performace. Cheers,

Sounds good Paul!
So, you'll be itchin to do the GOR again? New feet and 930 TR's? Wow, your T'll give Merv and Victor a hiding now ![]() I'm taking a peek at the Bridgestone Potenza RE950. These do come in my size, get equal or better ratings against the Yoko's but should last a bit longer too ....... I hope ![]() Just waiting on availability.

Sean,
What did you end up doing?? I am in a similar situation (probably worse) with a set of Dunlop Bathurst 1000's which pre datethe purchase of my car (3 years) so I don't know how old they are. They have totally lost it in that even the dry grip struggles on take-off and the hint of a wet road had seen me sliding all over the show when trying to brake. Totally unlike when I first got the car! I have recently been recommended the Bridgestone Potenza GIII at around $180-190 per corner (running 205-55-R16 up front and 225-50-R16 at the back). These sound like good value which is what I'm after. What was the quote on the Potenza's you looked at and how good are they? |

yeah that's about it - $180-190 as quoted from Berwick Tyrepower. But, when I ordered them they stuffed up and fitted Bridgestone Touranza's (Sp?) instead. WTF are "Touranza's"?!? ![]() Berwick Tyrepower had no issue with swapping them over but suggested I give 'em a whirl for the weekend to see what I reckon whilst the Potenza's were on back-order. So I contacted Bridgestone Aus direct for their recommendation between the choices for the type of daily use I need. They didn't hesitate recommending stick'n with the Touranza's. Long lasting, pretty good in the cornering and sticky in the wet. We'll see. They are smooth, nice and quiet - cured the 80 k rumble I had in the back end with the old tyres and they turn in way better than I expected. I suspect that may also be due to revised alignment - Peter Rasmussen out there is a bit of a Porsche wiz in the suspension set-up department. Anyway I stuck with the Touranza's even though I suspect you blokes will rib them as old mans tyres. ![]() Hi Victor, I'm still hangin in here. Josie, my wife took me out in the Porsche up to Nilma and back last weekend. Targa off and the wind in our hair. Wow, it's been a while. Just the tonic to motivate the noggin. An hour and a half and too easy. So I'm definitely getting there. Her first time at driving a Porsche too - she's still braggin' about it. I've hidden the keys! ![]()
