Insignificant question - engine light
 

My '79 Targa which I have owned for 34 years does not have a light on the engine lid, which is contrary to what my manual states. Was the light standard, in which case mine went missing? I don't see any loose wires anywhere in the compartment.

I always believed they were standard equipment on an SC.
If someone removed it they most likely pulled the wiring harness as well. Very easy to do.

If someone changed the deck lid, it might have been from a car with no light. Someone wanted to save 2 ounces or so I guess.

I don't believe that the decklid was changed, and I do see the bracket for the light on the lid, so I presume that it was removed at some early point for some reason.

My 1979 doesn't have a light either, but I am also missing the bracket so I've given up on the idea of adding the light. I think it's the original deck lid (I've owned the car since 1992). However, there is a rear wiper switch on my dash, but no sign of a rear wiper. So maybe it is a replacement deck lid.

I added a circuit from the rear fuse box, ran wires inside frame of rear lid and added an LED light that swivels to aim at the area of the engine I am working on. I also added a toggle switch on top of the rear fuse cover so i could turn on off when needed. I can post pictures later today if you want (I did for frunk too but not a mounted lamp). total cost was about 30.00

Made an aluminum bar to attach led bar to with jacknuts and then used rivets to anchor to grill opening (below the actual grill so can be seen)

for the front, I wired to my power and ground bars (mounted underneath the battery on floor of frunk), used a connector that allows me to disconnect and store the led bar in my Dr Bag or where the jack sits. The aluminum bar has some magnets with felt to protect the paint and I can position the light wherever needed on the hood or just sitting in the frunk lose.

The amount of light is perfect and in the event of a breakdown, both run off the battery direct (fused) so i can find the issue, but since it runs good, its just there for when i am puttering and fixing things i probably dont need to but am anl about
