oily wire
1987 Carrera
I detached #3 cylinder distributor wire from the spark plugs to examine it and I found it to be covered with oil...is this normal? |

No it's not. Photos please. Could be valve cover gaskets or other (many) issues.

oily wire
The stem that connects to the spark plug has a black rubber section with the connector pin and a metal part. It was the metal part that was covered with oil...the rubber section covering the spark plug was dry...

Uncertifiable!!!

Yep, likely valve cover gasket, or, loose/leaky rocker pin.
