Misshift this afternoon

Frustrated with myself but think I'm alright. Misshifted from 2nd to 1st around 4-4.5k rpm, 40-45 mph this afternoon. Caught it almost immediately when I felt the gear engaged and tires chirp on me and dropped it back into 2nd, but did see the tach needle bounce all the way up momentarily. Proceeded to drive for another 60-70 minutes with normal oil temp, pressure, no alternator lights on, no smell/smoke/noise from the engine. Anything to be overly concerned about, or just chalk this up to making sure my head isn't completely in the clouds next time?

Time to invest in gated shifter such as a Seine gate shift. Sure is cheap insurance
against an engine catastrophe. With my Seine unit I can just push the stick forward
and it automatically goes from 2nd to 3rd, no way to hit 1st.

I take my 911sc up to 42 mph in 1st all the time , Kermit loves the revs and he is stock for the valve train and CIS pistons . 7,000rpm in 1-2-3-4 not 5th limit to 6,350 from aero 144 mph top
I think you are fine

You should be fine with that level of rpm....the money shift usually happens at or near redline and then the wrong cog with huge over rev.

I think a properly weighted shifter...spring tension on both sides that centers on 3-4 is the answer and there are numerous solutions.

I have this one and it is not only excellent to look at but works flawlessly with a solid reverse lock out.....you would have to 'work' to get a wrong gear.

Appreciate it - I've seen videos of moneyshifts and this didn't feel anywhere close to that but the forum feedback definitely making my resting heartrate a little lower. Will take a look at that shifter

Looks like you did a bit of engine braking. I wouldn't worry about it.

Or get a 915, so you can't downshift to 1st at 40mph !

That was my thought. How the heck did you get first to engage at 40mph? Guess G50 is the answer.

I worry about 3rd to second or 4th to 3rd money shifts. Wevo centering spring helps allot!

You can do the math to see how high it could have overreved based on the gear ratios. In your case it looks like it theoretically could have gotten up to 7500 or so, but between tire and clutch slippage it's unlikely it even got that high. As others have noted, as a one time event it won't be an issue.

I was going in that direction as well, I need to dig up the owner's manual but when I leafed through it when I first got the car I thought I saw something like 39mph as the max speed for transition from 2nd to 1st and believe I was in spitting distance of that. Thanks for everyone's help
