On jack stands, spinning one rear wheel turns other, but not vice versa

Hi guys,
I'm working on a couple minor things on our 86 carrera and our car is up on jack stands. I noticed something today that I just didn't understand and I'd like to get your take on. I'm very much a beginner so I apologize if this is a stupid question...Here's what's happening:
- With the transmission in neutral, when i spin the left rear wheel, it spins freely and the right rear does not spin. This is what I expected to happen.
- With the transmission still in neutral, when I spin the right rear wheel, it spins with some resistance (much more than the left had) and the left wheel turns some as I'm spinning the right rear. This is not what I expected.
Why would this be?
Again, my skill level here is low... In addition, I checked to see what would happen if it were in gear. I thought it would be tough to turn either rear wheel. But in gear, both could turn with some resistance and both turn the other wheel as well, which I think makes sense.
The level of resistance in the right when in neutral isn't that different than when the car is in 1st.
What do you guys think would cause this asymmetrical behavior of the rear wheels when in neutral?
Thanks a lot for your insights - I appreciate all the help you guys give me!
Pete

Your brake is dragging on the right wheel. Could be parking brake or main pads. When you turn the left wheel, the right wheel tries to turn the opposite way. With the brake dragging, the internal shafts of the transmission turn instead. Normal behavior. You can try “exercising” the brake caliper pistons by squeezing the pads away from the rotor and then using the brake pedal to move the pads back to the rotor. A little drag is no problem as long as it’s not enough to make noise or get hot.
