Question Clifford Alarm System Removal

My '83 911SC has the Dealer Installed Clifford Alarm System. The control panel is mounted between the ignition switch and steering column. I would like to remove it from the car and replace the small dash panel and ignition switch bezel back to OEM original.

Looking for guidance on how best to remove this old alarm system and replace the dash panel.

Thank you,

I took all of the components out of the car except the keypad.
I didn't feel like dealing with the resulting hole, and the keypad, being visible, is a deterrent to lookey-lookers casing your ride.

Remove all the non- stock wires and boxes and then fix what doesn't work afterward. Usually it's just the starter function, which can be corrected by rejoining the big yellow wires at their original connector in the front trunk under the left side of the cowl. Or possibly at the back of the ignition switch. Look for a cut/ bypassed large gauge yellow wire.

Not sure about ‘dealer installed Clifford systems’ but back in the day I installed a lot of Clifford systems. Many got tied into the central locking systems, many featured the ability to flash the lights on arming/disarming and when the alarm sounded. And the. The engine kill system that tied into the fuel pump and/or starter circuit.

Oh, you could even add auto windows up/down, sunroof open/close, you name it.

But I agree, most of it you can just cut out and remove and fmfigure out how to put a few things back to stock.

Can you take a look at this link and let me know if these look like they were part of a vintage alarm?

I do expect those blue boxes were a home brew of some sort of a car stereo/alarm system installer....could be an auto window up/down mechanism, timer circuit to flash lights or an interior light delay.

It’s hard to be sure. One would think for the window up/down circuit you’d need a few relays, 2 per window at least.....the potentiometers could dial in an auto open/close force limit or adjust the timing for lights flashing or horns honking. Hard to say without tracing some wires.

These systems were pretty decent when working correctly. There is a fuel pump relay cutoff as well as an ignition relay cutoff along with airhorns and flashing lights when triggered. The keypad would have a rapid flashing red light on the keypad to let you know the alarm was triggered. These systems were all the rage in the 80's and considered to be some of the best.

OP....Just asking?? Interested to buy the system if you decide to part with that alarm. I would like the module, keypad and relays with wires (and the code) if you don't want it any longer.

We paid $500 in 1984. Had it removed at Circuit City years ago. Batteries last so much longer now!

Thank you, theres definitely a couple of weird disconnected relays in the trunk fuse box that I think run to these boxes. Im just trying to figure out what's safe to cut out and what isn't haha. Appreciate you looking.

Great suggestion. Since the car is still all original, I am going to leave the keypad as suggested.

Is the air horn only a part of the alarm system or is it also working as the main horn? It used to be a Clifford in my '79 and I found the same red airhorn but neither my horn or alarm is working.

I still have the keypad. It has a nice 80s vibe to it. PO installed an immobiliser which flashes an annoyingly bright led. But with the keypad and led maybe someone would start in the wrong place. Still has the Clifford alarm sticker on the window.

I had a Clifford Intelliguard 900-IQ alarm installed on my 930 when I bought it. I went through hell trying it get it out and get the car to start. At one point, I was trying to re-wire back in because I could not get the car to lock the doors. The original installer did too good of a job and I found it almost impossible with my lack of talent to undo the alarm wiring. On a whim, I bought a $15 keyless system on Amazon and wired it in. Everything works now.

My 83 came with an alarm activated by a key in the drivers door above the latch. Does anyone know what kind it is. You use it by opening the door a little and turning the key. I set it and it does activate a horn in the engine compartment. Seems to trigger off the door light switches and a push button switch on the hood and trunk. A bit of a joke since its a convertible which is really easy to get into without opening any door.
