Magnecor wire attachment to a spark plug

87 Carrera
I have a set of Magnecor wire set for the last 10 years but some of the wires seem loose in connecting to the spark plugs. tightening the ends do not help much...
1. are the connectors on the Clewett engineering set sold by our host have better connectors?
2. Are RSR plug hold downs a good solution? can the valve covers still be torqued properly with hold down on?

Hi David. I had the same problem with the Magnecors & have been using RSR hold downs for a few years w/o any issues. Prior to this, I had constant loose connections when driving spiritedly resulting in one or more cylinders misfiring.

I don't worry about torque values as they are attached to the upper valve cover bolts. I just use the "tighten until snug" method on the nuts & never had a leak.

Thanks MO-MON, When you install the RSR hold downs, do you first attache to the valve covers and then lift up the black plastic side over the wire stem base of the Magnecor stem?

You're welcome. Yes. I attach them loosely to the valve covers, align them on top of the stems, then tighten the nuts. I do them one at a time. They don't have to be perfectly centered. As long as they can prevent the stems from getting loose, they'll work.

Interesting, I've wondered about the very same thing with my Magnecors. Some stay solid but then a couple on the left side seem to lose connection and I think it may be the source of some misfires I'm picking up.

Another parts order:rolleyes:

mo-mon...one more question...
do I use the top or bottom row of the valve cover nuts to attach the RSR hold downs?
I ordered them from our host...

I used the bottom row.
