Rear torsion bar depth

How far in do the rear torsion bars need to go?
I’m having a hard time knowing if either side is in far enough or not. Currently they are at different depths. Can they be pushed all the way through? Or is there something that stops them from that?

This is on a 1968 911

Thanks.

It’s been quite a while since I changed mine but I seem to recall splines on each end. I think each bar meets at the center and fits in splines there. One side of mine came out easily. I had to use a long metal bar to drive the other out from the opposite side. When fit correctly they should be equal in length.
