Can I use Curil-T on shift fork plate gasket?
My 85 carrera's transmission is leaking from the lower shift plate (I believe that's what it's called). I'm going to change out the gasket -- I purchased some Curil-T for another project. Can/should I use that on the gasket for the shift plate cover?
Probably a silly question, but I don't think I ever used any kind of sealer on that plate when I did it last - just thought I'd go the extra mile if it's worth it and put some sealer on there as well. Thanks Mark |
yup, good idea;-)just not too much of it...

Goobery sealers on thin paper gaskets often cause the gasket to split and sqeeze out upon tightening. I would use spray coppercoat and let it set up before tightening.

I like Curil T, sorry John. Hylomar is basically the same thing, non-curing sealent. Hylomar, British, Curil T German.
