911/01 trans questions
Hi All!
I'm restoring a -71T with an 911/01 5-speed trans. Now putting on the clutch on the engine and the responding parts on the trans I have some questions. 1) The 101 project book mentions a "plastic bushing on the inside of the (fork) arm" that needs replacing. I don't see this in the PET. Is it for my setup? If so, can someone point me towards a parts number please. 2) Again, looking in the PET, I don't see all the shims, lock ring etc that comes with my new clutch release bearing. Can someone show me some images or a link where installing this is described. Appreciate all input, Jörgen Forssling Gothenburg SWEDEN ![]() |

I have now found out the positions of the washers on my 2) question.
When I mate the trans and engine. How do I get the fork in the correct position? It is now rather flimsy hanging on bolt #5. Is this correct? Thanks for any input! //Jörgen |

The TOB must be clocked such that the flat sides align with the shift fork. This will allow you to slide the transmission onto the engine and secure the 4 nuts. At this point, you will have to pull the clutch fork forward towards nose cone of the transmission, then use a hook tool through the window opening on the top of the case, next to the bell housing to rotate the TOB so that both tangs of the fork are sitting on the large flat supports (wings) of the TOB. It will somewhat "click" into place. This will not be easy and it should fit fairly tight with tension.
The factory procedure for releasing tension on the Pressure plate involves some special spacers, and bolts to pull the pressure plate using the three, silver, recessed nuts on the clutch assembly. These are then removed after assembly through the starter hole.

Thank you guys for taking your time to help me with so detailed instructions. I'm putting together a -71T, that I bought incomplete i boxes, and with help from this forum (and other sources) I'm soon to be ready.
Just one more question. As I said, now the fork is loose on its ball pin, I assume when it's pressed by the TOB/clutch it will be right. OK? //Jörgen |

Yes, lots of fun. Have done this a few times as I struggled with a bearing noise in my trans. To answer your question, yes the fork is a loose fit at this point till engaged with TOB. The spring plate is critical so make sure it is in and facing the correct direction My technique involves using the two openings on the housing casting that allowing access to the TOB. I actually smoothed the edges to make engagement a bit easier. I do not use the bolt/spacer technique, I just move the TOB as needed, first align the flats so that it can clear the fork, then rotate the TOB so that the forks engage and are behind the TWO ears. First time was a PIA but now takes a minute or two. Overall an odd set up, remember the forks action is opposite.

Wish me luck! Ps. Here you can follow my struggles, and maybe pick up some Swedish. https://boxerville.se/forum/viewtopic.php?id=41126 //J |

Make sure you are running the right pressure plate for the 70-71
911 116 001 05 The 915 PP looks identical to the 911 PP. Difference is a stiffer diaphragm spring for the 915. If you run the 915 it will eventually cause a failure of the cable, pivot bolt, and or throw out bearing fork.

The fork will be loose until you pull forward rearward at the bottom toward the bell housing. At this point the spring (#4) will provide resistance.
Once the fork is secured properly in the TOB it should be pretty tight.
