Pole Position Classic vs late sport seat ( save 45+ lbs!) & mount drilling questions

I mounted up the passenger side Pole Position Classic and it's AWESOME!

Looks killer, feels GREAT and I gained some headroom, which is a *BIG* plus...

Best of all, you get to drop ~46 lbs for the pair vs. the late sport seats...

Now for some thoughts and questions.

I need to source black hardware and I'd like to have the aluminum side brackets black anodized or Cerakoted. Any suggestions?

Further still, I do not like the idea of mounting the 964 Carrera RS inboard seatbelt anchor (964 521 065 00) between the aluminum bracket & slider. I know this is standard operating procedure, but I don't like the idea of raising the seats even 3mm.

So, I'm contemplating drilling a 16mm hole in the side of the aluminum bracket and mounting the anchor from the top / inside (vs. between the bracket and slider on the outside). Something along these lines...

Then drill two new holes on the bottom of the anchor (one for an M8 fastener and one for an M6 fastener) to line up with the existing M8 & M6 holes in both the aluminum bracket and steel sliders.

I can drill holes, but I'm looking for some additional precision here ( I don't have a drill press). So, any suggestions as to where to bring these items? It's a piddly lil' job, so I can't imagine a machine shop would be interested.

Speaking of machine shops, I do have a pair of BMW wheels that I would like to increase the centerbore on. Any suggestions on where to get something like that done? Bonus points for local San Diego / OC recommendations.

Finally, I just finished up the rear bumperette delete / Euro crush tube swap, and M&K Active Exhaust pre-muffler & 1 in/out install. All of that, combined with the Pole Positions, will net a 70 pound weight savings.

Are those the slightly larger ABE's?

Beautiful.

I did a Google image search and came up with the below.

I cannot tell from that diagram, did see in a BMW forum where it is between the bracket and seat sliders.

EDIT:

Recaro Pole Position

This is a pic of the bracket

and the part number is the ollowing:

964.521.065.00

This picture is of how it looks like when bolted between the slider and mounting bracket.

Are the ABE's wider at the bottom, too wide to match the above?

EDIT-3:

Recaro seat mounting in C-2

Recaro PP, mounting and where to buy?

Here's an assembled unit, you also need button head bolts to avoid interference. You can also see one of the 3mm washers(black) sandwiched between the sidemount and slider
Ruby (& Ed) gets a new race seat-installation info

Thanks for the thoughtful and well presented response kach22i!

Yes, the Pole Position Classics are ABEs...

Yes, they're beautiful. Comfy too. I just took a thirty minute phone call out in the garage sitting in it. ;-)

Yep, 964 521 065 00 are the inboard seat belt anchors that I have on hand. Per my post, I'm not looking to mount them between the aluminum side bracket and the steel sliders, as most everyone does. I'm looking to mount them on top of the aluminum side bracket.

There are numerous other side bracket options: Brey Krause, Planted, Southbound Trimmers, etc. Most of them have the inboard seatbelt mount integrated into the side bracket which is cool. All of them appear to be steel though and I'm going for lightweight as part of this whole process. Recaro Pole Position '87 Carrera install best practices? Southbound Trimmers mounts?

I'm not a materials expert, but there are different grades of aluminum and we have to assume Recaro selected this grade because holes in it survive the 20G FIA test or whatever.

Your car, and only you can pull the trigger on the drill.

I've read most failures in track accidents are the mounts and not the seats, this goes for all makes.

Sorry I could not be of more help, I hope to do similar over the winter so your project is of interest.

NOTE: This already looks much safer than the Buddy Club seat mounts from Japan. I can cobble up something better at my local hardware store.
