What Tins? SC3.0 in a 68 912 chassis

Doing this 3.0 swap into this 912. My tins aren’t in great shape and I’ve also deleted all hvac content on the motor. Also plan to run a front oil cooler and delete the onboard motor one.

What replacement engine tins should I get? Or what set should I start with to modify etc ?

Until I actually found these screws, I went to a hardware store, bought a shorter screw, bought a threaded union & a threaded stud w/no head, married them together & it worked well!!!^^^

I guess a 1st question is, what's the 3.0 engine out of. Maybe give us the engine #.

Engine is out of an 83 SC. Not sure of numbers. Not near it right now.

stock tins work fine as long as you have moved the engine mounts.

I would not delete the engine mount oil cooler unless you really have everything planned out and have a good adapter plate.

Yes, the chassis was converted to 6 cylinder well before I got it, so the orig mounts are gone and flat 6 mounts installed.

I just did some research and realize I can use both the engine mounted cooler as well as a front mount, so I will retain it for sure. It seems tougher to remove and bypass it.

The pass side side tin on a 3.2 Carrera does not have an air socket and I know '74 and earlier rear tins don't have any "holes". Your SC engine should have the drivers side side tin with no air socket and a block off plate just to the right of the fan. I ended up getting a metal block off for the drivers side from Patrick Motorsports. A little pricey but nice!

I’m doing the exact same thing as you right now. Also with an 83 3.0.
Rennspeed sells fiberglass versions of the tins. Good to save as much weight as possible on the rear.

I can’t imagine the metal ones weighing very much more than the fiberglass ones. I will look into that kit though. Wanted metal so that I could powder coat them.
