I drop the engine and trans onto a lift table, easy peasy. I made a plywood topper for the table.

I think I'm gonna start disconnecting things tomorrow. I figure that way it forces me to do something. I just have to make a small adjustment to my design and it should be go time!

I love those fabbed lift mounts for the torsion bars. That said, is there a benefit to that approach vs just making your own jack pads from hockey pucks or similar and using the factory holes? That’s what I did and they work great for my Maxjax:

Only reason I went with the adapters was due to an A/C line being right next to the pinch weld on the passenger side and I couldn't get my pinch weld adapters in place. I was all ready to put the car on the lift, swung the rear arms under with pinch weld adapter in hand and said "well sh.t! That isn't gonna work".

I don't mount them but I've used hockey pucks for years, so I don't mar the lift points.
You have to be careful, the factory lift points are okay on a solid car, but can be disastrous on a crunchy car.

Here's the end result

I had to build a tilting lift table... just because. Now that I've got the engine out I've added getting the fan cerakoted, new engine and transmission mounts, new axle shafts, fix the windshield washer and send the speedometer in for an odometer gear fix and refresh. Working on these cars is never just an in and out thing.

No drama to the lift or engine removal. I was a bit worried about weight distribution once the engine came out so I put a support under the front of the car. Once the engine was out I slowly let the support down and the car stayed put. I let the car down and did the "bumper test" and the car felt like it did with the engine in. There was very little movement which was nice.

Do it this way with 996 engines, the 996 is way heavier than a old 911.

Using a MaxJax 2 post lift and a Harbor Freight scissor table, I have removed and installed engines.

Using these is much safer, easier, and faster than trying to remove with jack stands.
