I change out the oil pressure switch on my 1976 911 s 2.7 last night. I few people (who will remain nameless) told me It couldn't be done with out a partial engine drop. This was false. Here how it went for future reference:
1. Removed air box cover and CIS boot. 2. Used 15/16" deep socket with jointed extension to remove old switch. Piece of cake. 3. Getting the new one in was a little trickyer. After many attempts with a socket and different extension I finally used a set of pilers clamped on top of the swicth to start the threads. The biggest trick is to used a little electrical tape to hold the crush washer on. Be careful that the tape doesn't get under the nut becauseit could effect the seal. 4. After getting the threads started use the 15/16 to tighten it 20 N/m (waynes new engine book). Probably took 2hrs total. Most of the time was spent trying to get the new swicth threaded (45 mins! and 5 beers to calm me down). Still better than a engine drop. Tip: Use a hand mirror and flash light on the drivers side to see what you are doing. Otherwise you'll be working blind. |
