901 CV joints/Axles help

I was given some axles. Have no idea what year they are. But the bolts lineup to my 901 trans. I don’t have my 68 right now to check if they match the rear hubs. But if they lineup with the 901 I imagine they will. Is there anything else I should know or check? Ide like to start rebuilding these axles.
Thanks.

Old joints with new grease and new boots are not rebuilt. Same old worn joints. Best buy a pair of new complete axles.

for a 1968, pelican has $440 per axle and they say “rebuilt”:
Don’t know what’s considered rebuilt.

Wouldn’t these old Porsche axles be better than anything new? These joints were stiff and had no play but the boots were dry and cracking. Plus I’ve heard the new axles don’t even come with synthetic grease.
Prices for new axles range from $48 (Surtrack) to $440 (GKN)

That’s silly. You don’t know the condition of the internals until you take it apart. You don’t tell a customer not to rebuild their gearbox and just buy a new one. It is totally possible to Service these joints if they aren’t worn out, but you can’t tell until you examine them closely.

You can tell by holding the inner joint and rocking the wheel back and forth with your other hand and feeling the slop. I wouldn't expect a 200K axle to not have pits and divots in it's races.

Well I could never test these like that. But I’m happy with the condition. I don’t see any pitting at all. Before taking them apart they were full of grease. Boots although cracked had no holes. So for about $100 for all four kits. Why not try it. Beats $1000 for new axles that are probably not as good as the original Porsche.

But before o go any further. Can someone validate the lengths of these and that they will fit a 68? Please. Thanks.

16 7/32 give or take a 1/32 or two.

Here’s a reference chart. You’ll need to convert to metric. It is a German car after all...

CV and Axle Cross Reference
