How to identify 1970s porsche engines

I recently bought a 1975 911s targa. When I purchased the gentleman told me the 2.7 liter engine had been replaced with a 1967 3.0 SC engine. Does anyone know how I can identify which engine I have for sure and the likelihood of this being replaced?

I am asking to know what year repair manual to buy.

Perhaps “1967” is a typo? The 3.0 liter SC model line ran from 1978-1983. The 1967 911S had a 2 liter engine.

In either case, I would look at the engine serial number. There are numerous threads that can decode the year of the engine.

The Carrera 3 started in 1976 and had a 3l engine. It is a more desirable engine than the SC 3l. Check the type and serial number and post it.

There are two #'s that are always important, the serial # and the type #
in this example there is a third # (build # to end of 1969 model year) below the type #
