73 911 Speedometer questions?
It appears that my 73 911 has been converted from a cable driven speedometer to an electronic speedometer. What looks like the end of speedometer cable, that has fittings that would connect to the back of a gauge, is laying in the frunk. When I pulled the speedo to get access to the wiper assembly I noticed there was some speaker wire and other none OE looking wires connected.
Does it sound like this has been converted? If so, is there any documentation out there? Would you at this point return it to cable driven for originality? Or keep it as is? It is working. |
Post your transmission serial and type number. It’s likely that a later model transmission has been installed. Porsche switched to a electric speedo sometime in mid 75 I think....

Converting back to cable driven will likely require a different transmission...

That has to be what happened. There is a wire running to the transmission. The SN is half rubbed off the boss. Partial serial number. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1606578389.jpg Wire coming from the transmission. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1606578389.jpg |
Thats your speedo sensor on the side of transmission

Definitely not the original transmission.
