For Wayne, regarding attack
Hello Wayne,
I have software that prevents this from happening. Check it out at www.securitymetrics.com Regards, Gus SmileWavy |
Hi Gus, Being an IT guy, how can 'any' software running on Wayne's server(s), prevent a 'denial of service' attack? I'm not second guessing you, but am just curious as to how you can stop an 'organized' DOS attack by software running ON the server(s) being targeted. Feel free to pm me if you don't want to discuss this on an open forum. Thanks!

If I read that guys web site right your just going to get a presentation on whats open & vulnerable on your machine.... Nessus will do that for free. I like free/open source stuff when it comes to security, it seems there quicker to adopt the lastest and greatest implementations for a certain issue. If your interested, I alerady emailed wayne about it, another nice program is portsentry - although it can't prevent DOS attacks...
Good luck Wayne? Do you host this yourself Wayne? Anthony |
With cable and dsl being so popular today about the only thing that will stop most ddos attacks is a filter on the isp side router. Most sites get hit when their WAN connection is saturated. Of course there are the occasions where the Wan link is fine, but the servers are over run with requests, but isn't that much less likely than the other?

Geez, I would have thought that an attack on a modern system like this wouldn't be suceptible to some old system running the DOS operating system. (just kidding)...
If I knew my old 8087 PC was so powerful, I would have kept it.. ;) |
I thought it was DrDOS....

The supposed attack was on our CISCO router. That would make any attempts to stop it on the PC-side moot. Without divulging any details, I think that I have solved the problem and fixed the situation. Regardless, Pelican's dual, redundant T1s operated correctly, and it did not bring the site down at all.

Wayne, I thought you gave that guy a refund....
Seriously, you ought to report it to the Calif. AG's office and also there is aplace on the net somewhere to report these things to. It's unlikely to be Al Quada, but who knows who it is. |

The sucker saw me coming. I was back about 1500 feet or so. He nailed it onto an on ramp. I blew by him at the top of the ramp, 4th gear 6 grand, I gave him the "Bursch" hair part.

Server Set Up
Wayne,
Sounds like your server set up is faster than most of our cars... not to mention "bullet proofed". Gordo |
