Converting 911SC doors back to stock from RS --help!
Hi folks, I recently acquired a '79 911SC. It came with the passenger door nicely converted to RS panels, the driver's door with no cards at all. The window felts are rotten as are the door seals, but the locks sort of work and the electric windows sort of work. So I am planning to restore the doors back to stock. The car came with *some* of the original parts (I know the pockets are the wrong color, but I can fix that.
I'd love some guidance on what parts I'll need to go all the way back to stock. What pullrods, plugs, screws, bolts, etc will be needed. I have tried squinting at the parts diagrams on the various parts websites, but I am quickly overwhelmed by the task of determining the difference in parts. Can you help me with some quick thoughts/wisdom on the things I'll most likely need? Thanks in advance!

your new pieces are very nice and I can see why you want to use them. your task is a tall one with what you've described you need in the way of linkage n fasteners.
the bently includes a pretty good image of all the fastener locations for the cards and pockets. I would suggest a want to buy add in the classifieds for all the fasteners, finish washers and door mechanism linkage. many racecar builds end up with excess stuff and you might score a full set in a baggy.

I would source the factory PET. It gives the size and quantity of fasteners. Rob

The good news is all the bits and bobs you need should be commonly available, since so many people do the RS panel conversion to their cars.

It seems you have most of the parts to do it. The hardware needed you can see it in the PET.
Here the PET pages where the door parts are shown. The PET is available at the Porsche web page. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks to all for those responses. Sorry for taking so long to respond. Not much is missing, but I'll post a wanted ad. In fact, I have two nice RS panels I may offer in trade.

It looks like you have most everything you need. I just did this on my '87 with RS panels and went back to stock (ish.)
There are 5 square anchors in the door that hold the pocket, as well as 3 inserts for the door for clips. You will probably need a few lock rod clips (one for the pivot point of the handle on door, and one for the inner handle) The pockets are screwed on, there is one block at the back upper corner that get's screwed to one of the square anchors, and a center support for the lid. The felt and rubber you need on the inside is push on as soon as you remove the top rail. All of this is readily available. |
