Would like some feedback on a cracked engine cooling fan from a 964 Carrera 2 Coupe.

I am considering selling the cracked engine cooling fan in my 1990 964 Carrera 2 Coupe. It's not a large crack...and the damage does not penetrate through to the rear side of the fan. I think a qualified welder who is familiar with magnesium might be able to fix the fan.

Does anyone know what it would cost to repair the crack in the cooling fan?

Can someone tell me what the cooling fan is worth "as-is" and in need of repair?

And what is a reasonable asking price for a repaired and repainted cooling fan. This would only be done with full disclosure to the buyer.

A new fan cost $592 at Pelican right now. To some people that's chump change. But to the rest of us out there, less costly alternatives are usually welcome. I look forward to hearing from anyone with information and comments.

Will send photo's to anyone who wishes to see the cooling fan. My Gmai addressl is:. royal.schmidt88@gmail.com.

David

I fix fans all the time.. There are some that are not fixable but a good percentage are.

$443 available from other sources and the new ones include a new $150 hub bearing. I can’t imagine how welding and painting an old mag fan is worth it? Not to mention the potential for catastrophic destruction.

Umm don't know about you but I typically charge anywhere from $100-200 to repair them and that is a substantial savings.. I wont waste time on one that is all beat up but rather like to inspect prior to any work.

After this happened to me, there is No Way I'd use a cracked/repaired fan. Luckily it happened at Idle speed instead of Highway speed.

Probably due to a too tight belt on that one. The long shaft can't take it.
