Shifter question
 
Does this shifter look stock, or are these aftermarket accesories attached to it ? Secondly , the screw is stripped on this Alignment bracket On the side and was loosely flopping around . Third pic . Does it need to be removable or should I weld it To prevent this from happening again. Thirdly, the spring on the red bracket I'm guessing is to align shifter to center for third And fourth shifting . This spring could use a little more length , or is worn because it doesn’t quite have enough tension to hold shifter far enough right with tension. That’s not stock. It has a Seine Systems shifter. That little bracket needs to be welded on to the shifter shaft.

Do you feel too much loose play when in neutral? The bolt can be adjusted down, by loosening the nut, to allow just a small amount of play

I will give that a try when I get it back together . Thanks for the info , it’s nice to know what I have, and the Seine website was helpful also. I will weld that piece on once it’s back together when I’m sure it’s in the right location . The person that had it before obviously didn’t have the ability to weld it .

That tab looks to be in a suitable position. You can tell with the assembly out as you have it. Seines come with a hose clamp to position the tab, but he notes that is temporary, and best used to get the tab positioned before you weld. Drilling and tapping a hole is an interesting idea, but looks like the thread stripped, and that might not be strong enough anyway for this application. Welding is, and should be convenient with it all out on a work bench. This isn't a critical position - low enough to engage the fixed tabs, but high enough not to bump into the base.

For someone with a stock shifter is the seine kit worth the investment or is the factory short shifter still the recommended approach?

They serve two different purposes.
A short shifter shortens the distance between gears, and the Seine device spring loads the 1-2 side of the pattern similarly to the 5-R side, centering the shifter in the 3-4 plane when in neutral.
You can use either one separately, or both together.

New linkage and coupler bushings, a factory short shifter and a Seine kit do a lot to make the shifter feel nicer. I have this on my car and I found it a huge improvement. Not quite as nice as, say, a Rennshift but a ton cheaper.

^Agreed. Makes a huge difference with a 915 and well worth the relatively modest expense

Wish that someone could start producing the Secret Shifter from years back as that was an elegant solution to keeping the shift lever in the center gates. The fellow that was producing them (Ed Mitchell) passed away last year.

Buy one of Karsten’s springs: $50 and you’ve got a massive improvement to the shifter action.
