Number of cars with particular color codes
Howdy.
I am working on an article about 911 paint colors. I have a theory that in the flower power era, many 911 buyers picked happy colors like yellow, orange, blutorange etc rather then the usual, dull grey, white or black that dominate today. I would however like to verify this. I have managed to obtain a list of colors of 911s sold in Norway in 2020. Is it possible to fint a corresponding list of cars sold in 1970? Worldwide, US or Europe, or a spesific country, it doesn't matter. Einar |

Here's your source. It doesn't have numbers of cars, but it does have the colors.

Porsche might be willing to help; or the USA arm of it. Porsche does have a library/research dept. that is staffed.
BTW, there are lots of comments about "safety colors" being popular at one time - things like Signal Orange, etc. I'd love to see your results too! |
Einar,
Post your article here when done. What amazes me is the variety of colors available then. Just the many different GREENS is striking. As the world grew more conservative, color followed suit, the phycology of color is fascinating. By the 80's we had mostly black, white and guards red, of course there were other great occasional colors like metallic-purple and mint green into the 90's with the 964 but by in large the palette constricted...by the year 2000 every thing turned silver, then Silver -Grey became a statement from regular silver. Driving is supposed to be fun, no? |
I can help you with years 74-77 approx for specific models like euro carreras and turbos. I have a couple of books that are very comprehensive with colors and quantities. You may want to reach out to the author here and find out how he sourced the data. His name is Ryan Snodgrass and he is a member here.
