Size Tools needed to hand-turn a '73 911T MFI motor?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 1968 912 owner looking to upgrade into a 1973 911T project car -factory MFI- which I am going to see next week.

It is a very honest car (I caught a brief peek months ago), however it has sat for ~20 years, and was briefly revived for one day ~10 years ago, only to sit again since that moment.

The seller needs (and deserves) a fair offer. I can easily assess most of the car based on my 912 experiences, but my primary concern toward making an offer is the motor. I think the main gateway for me here is whether the crank will hand-turn or not, although I'm fairly sure some real work is in order regardless.

I have a 912 so there is no easy flat 6 reference in my garage- what tool(s) or size of wrench do I need to bring with me to try turning this thing over by hand? It is far away, but I have access to a friend's toolbox near the car when I get there- I just need to pack any Porsche essentials- this item being one.

thanks in advance!

If the fan belt is present, You can turn the motor by turning the nut on the alternator and apply pressure to the belt. Depending on the alternator installed, it is a 22 (early) or 24 (late) mm nut. An open or box end wrench would be appropriate.

It not you will need to turn the nut on the lower pulley.

Thanks! That 22/24 figure was just what I needed!

Any other tips are welcome, hopefully there is good news to report next week...

Probably a socket for this with a long bar.
