'66 Sportomatic Demonstrator
After getting out of the army in 1970 i bought a 1966 Sportomatic which was a demonstrator for Porsche. It was at Prey Porsche in Connecticut.
Fast car. The Porsche mechanics must have tweeted the engine because it eat platinum plugs after 5000 miles Drive it for 8 years as my daily driver until I could not afford to keep it up. Put it in storage until 1986 when I was going to do a restoration. The shop said it was all rusted in the frame. I sold it and bought the 1986 Targa I still drive. One of the worst decisions I have made. Always wondered where that car went, Did someone have it that knew what a gem it was. This is the only photo ![]() |

The Sporto trans was not available until 1968 model year. Either the car was a 1968 model or the drive train came from a 1968 or later. Do you have any old insurance slips with the VIN?

Sorry you missed the point.
It was a 1966 specially made that was used as a demonstrator for the sportomatic. That is why now I know it was unique and I should not have sold it. Last edited by Wingman911; 12-14-2020 at 05:52 AM.. |
