3.0SC to 3.5Litre with ITBs, Motec, EFI

Earlier this year I was contacted about rebuilding a stock 3.0 to address some oil leaks.
www.aircooledporsches.com.au

The owner loves the car but wanted noticably more performance.. so I reached out to William Knight who has assisted me hugely. He engineered the motor and took into consideration the owners brief, which was to be a street engine. Torque was the key, not peak HP.

William spent hours on the phone with myself and also the owner. "What's the big deal?" I hear you ask? Well, Im in Australia.. so William was usually speaking to me at 2am in the morning!
I found some cylinders which William arranged to have bored and plated, he also specified some custom length rods and pistons from Carrillo and also designed a unique camshaft with his friend Melissa (RIP) from Webcamshafts.
Andrew at Rasant performance built a harness to Williams requests and we sourced the Motec locally, since they are made here).

This engine is the first "big bore and stroke" motor I have assembled, and I am really impressed. I was actually surprised by how quickly it spins up; the throttle response is lightning fast!

The ITBs were supplied locally by RaceHead Engineering, www.racehead.com.au but you can buy them from Al Kosmal in the USA since he is a distributor. https://www.x-faktory.com/

Here are a couple of youtube vids that show it on the dyno, and also a street drive with me in the drivers seat.. after that, I've uploaded a whole stream of photos to show the before, some during and after... this motor was an oily mess!

Scroll forward to about 5 minutes to see the car in action. I only had the car for a short time before it had to go back on a truck to it's owner!

That's Purdy!!

William and Al are some of the best guys around, a wealth of information.

Wow, sorry to understand that Melissa (RIP) is no longer with us, she really new here stuff about cam profiles!!

So, how did you come to choose Arias pistons, CR etc? What cams did you end up with?

Thx

You guys know what this is? It’s poetry, where beauty is created by overcoming self imposed limitations.

Great stuff Mike! Watched that more than a few times ...

You should recreate the old Holden SS ute x Acca Dacca “thunderstruck” commercial! Just don’t tell the owner

Awesome build. William has been beyond nice to me also in consultation for 3.0 to 3.6 motor with 98mm cylinders and the 4.0 Cup crank, Motec. He is one knowledgeable dude!

Carillo pistons.. William has engineered enough of these motors to know what works.. he was behind all the design elements on this project.. All I did was put it together...

I am corious Mike, Is the 3.5 smoother than the 3.0 with the M1 cam ? I suspect it is but you'r the only one that truly knows since you have driven them both ?
