passenger side rust

1986 Porsche 911
I finally was able to bribe a body shop into fixing the rust on the passenger side. What visually looked like it was limited to under the rubber door sill. PN 911-551-620-00 (for refence)
Once we got into it we discovered it had infiltrated the rear metal: 911-502-042-04
-M350

In investigating further, we found the origin of the rust was directly in-front of the vent tube for the charcoal canister.
Has anyone else seen this problem before? Current solution is to give the vent tube a 90deg downward bend. Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Andrew

I had to make this repair twice on the passenger side rear sill over the 24 years we had the 84' Carrera. In both cases fresh metal was used. It never got up into the dogleg. During the second repair rust was also found on the driver side, same area and that was also repaired the same way. This car spent most of its life in upstate NY, although never driven in the winter. These were the only spots I ever had to repair.
