Hi all:
Hope everyone has had a good holiday.
I'm a newbie to air cooled engines, to start. Am in the midst of sorting out the engine bay looking to change out CIS to either Bitz or ITBs. After reading and reading, I realize that I have a Permatune setup, but no idea what this 'coil' is (blue arrow), which is connected to the Permatune CDI box, nor the adjacent silver cannister (red arrow) which I thought might be a fuel filter but it's not connected to the accumulator. Any ideas? I realize I can't use the Bitz system with Permatune, so trying to sort this out for next steps. Thanks!
Best,
Bert

The red arrow is merely a cap on what would be air channel going to the heat blower fan
Fan is removed and there is no need or desire for heat
Still thinking on the blue arrow

Have you removed the "coil" to look for any identifying info on the bottom?

the blue looks like aftermarket coil unit ..

Thanks Bruce. Should've realized this since the heat exchangers were removed for racing headers. Much appreciated!

Thanks - that's my next step to remove and take a look. I have examined it even to the point of taking off some of the flaking powder coating, but no numbers or anything else. Will let you know what I find.

Thanks; I think that's right, but never seen one like this before - time to take it off to see. Either way, since I'm considering a Bitz or ITB, probably need to replace the Permatune anyway.

Thanks to fanaudical, proporche, and Flat6pac for their answers. I took the box off, and there were no identifiable markers, nor any way to open up the presumed coil box. At this point I'll just assume it's a third party coil, but plan to replace it once I can put in EFI/ignition.
