New Years Day drive So Cal- all welcome 2020
FYI, reposted from another forum. Happy New Year to everyone!
Providing we are not in full lock down mode ![]() The tradition of the Hangover Run will happen January 1st . Starting point will be the parking lot where Starbucks and Von's at the corner of Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon (exit off hwy 14) With over 30 years of driving in the New Year with friends over back roads out here, its a good way to unwind (or wind up? ![]() Lets be sensible and wear your mask at all times, stay away from each other (in person and spread out on the road < you know debris filled canyon roads are not great for the bodywork) , stay in your lane and play well with others. Meeting time is 7:30 am // We leave at 8:00 am and this is a call for all makes , years, and models. Typically we are 80% Porsche each year Here is an outline of the route Sand Canyon west to Sierra Hwy R on Sierra and L on Vasquez Canyon R on Bouquet Canyon and follow to Spunky Canyon (EZ TO MISS) L on Spunky Canyon to San Francisquito Canyon R on San Francisquito to Lake Elizabeth Road (TEE intersection) R on Lake Elizabeth , changes name to Palmdale Blvd R on Tierra Subida (Gas station on the corner/ market parking lot - usual gathering spot to fill up/ use the restrooms- really nothing after that till the very end in La Canada !) Continue Tierra Subida to Barrel Springs Road R on Barrel Springs R on Sierra Hwy L on Pearblossom Hwy Construction project ahead Follow Pearblossom to 40th St R on 40th st and continue till end R on Mt Emma road (TEE intersection) Follow Mt Emma to Angeles Forest Hwy (TEE) L on Angeles Forest Hwy OPTION on left side large dirt turn out for picture opportunity Continue on AFH to Upper Big Tujunga (EZ to miss !) L on Upper Big Tujunga and follow till end (TEE) L onto Angeles Crest Hwy Follow Angeles Crest to Newcombs Ranch (left side of the road) 88 miles, so fill up in Palmdale as the return leg back to civilization is pretty long from Newcombs NOTE the parking lot is not very big, so please be considerate and CAREFUL if you park near the road. This is the end of the drive. Fastest way back is to Go West on Angeles Crest and follow all the way back thru upper Big Tujunga- then once you get to Angeles Forest is to turn LEFT and then RIGHT on (lower) Big Tujunga all the way eventually getting to Sunland Blvd . 44 miles from Newcombs The 210 fwy is a short drive west of there OR same way back to Angeles Forest - Go LEFT all the way to Angeles Crest and turn Right on Angeles Crest for La Canada/ Hwy 210 (57 miles) OR turn RIGHT on Angeles Forest and go all the way back to Palmdale/ Hwy 14 40 miles from Newcombs who is in ? https://goo.gl/maps/4JdT3xYbrseusXzW8 Last edited by Steve W; 01-01-2021 at 12:20 AM.. |

Jamie I don't have many pics, but here's what few I have. The turnout was pretty big and the cars hugely varied. As usual Dave did a great job.:
Here's the stop along Angeles Forest Highway, after the construction closure on Pearblossom which probably threw off half the cars as a last second detour was required to get here. These are the ones that made it. As usual the scenery was great, especially with the snow lined roads up Upper Big Tujunga, and the morning views overseeing the morning fog surrounding the city of LA from up the mountain elevations of Angeles Crest Hwy were spectacular. |
