idle after ssi upgrade

Just got done with an SSI upgrade on my 81SC. I knew my engine would breath easier, but I did not expect my idle to jumped from 1000rpm to 1800rpm after the upgrade. Is this normal? I also removed the oxygen sensor, but I don't think it was working anyway. Just wanted get some feedback before I started adjusting things.

Revs quicker and sounds sweet!!!!!!

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak that occured after the installation. Put the SSI's on my car and nothing changed but then I have the DME system on my car.

If I recall correctly, the O2 sensor will lean out the motor. So, in theory, with it removed, the motor would be running richer now, which could cause the increase in idle. Have you tried to either turn the idle adjustment screw, or adjust the mixture? Just a thought....

Don't have an O2 sensor on my SSI's but I know for a fact that a spark plug will screw right into the o2 bung on my old cat.

No problem Ronin. Just went out to the garage to look to see what plug I used.

It is Autolite 45. Wanted to buy the cheapest thing I could to plug the hole and at <$1.00 it fit the bill.

Anyone want to buy a good cat? $50 plus shipping
