Hi

Fuel Filter/Strainer
Can someone tell me how this filter (911-201-141-00) works within my fuel system?
I understand it screws into the bottom of the fuel tank but I don't understand how it filters or strains the fuel. How does this work with the fuel pump? Thank you. Larry 1984 911 3.2 ![]() ![]()

The strainer goes up into the fuel tank, where it seats into a boss that feeds the fuel pump. The filtered fuel comes out of those openings under the grey plastic collar near the brass nut. From there it goes to the fuel pump.

So, do I correctly imagine that the tank must be drained in order to inspect or change this strainer?

To do it safely, yes. Whatever fuel is left in the tank will drain out in a hurry when the strainer is removed. Probably easiest to remove the fuel sender unit and siphon from there.

Fuel removal setup
Yes, this setup worked very well for me. The transfer pump was from HF (~$10 I think) then I added some tubing, hose clamps, and a $4 filter. Removed all the remaining fuel in my tank in under 10 minutes with no spillage. Made removing the tank and thus the filter very easy. I removed the tank for refurbishment, if you don't need to take the tank out then just remove the strainer from below. Easy peasy.
