Too much of a caricature.....

Anglocanadian 01-10-2021 01:33 PM

I would say it is aimed at wealthy Saudi,s who want something for the dunes .
Its just a rich mans beach buggy !

wareaglescott 01-10-2021 01:51 PM

..and if I do win the lottery this ain't it....it is a caricature. I'm sure it would look better after a fun drive but is still hard to look at.

MichaelSJackson 01-10-2021 02:22 PM

I'd love to drive it! I couldn't afford a (what's the word?) standard Singer, so price is not the issue for me.

I got to drive the Alcan highway, while it was still a graded road, in my 4x4 short bed pickup. Hours and hours of easy drifting. This Singer would have upped the game.

I don't know about those diving planes on the front bumper. I'd worry about sticking them, if it landed a bit nose first. Less overhang, the better?

Interesting.

fanaudical 01-10-2021 04:46 PM

There is some very interesting engineering on that car, but the aesthetic isn't exactly to my liking. If it was given to me, I wouldn't kick it out of the garage for dripping oil...

BLACK3.2 01-10-2021 04:49 PM

They're moving into guntherwerkes territory with the styling.

I think they do better with a safari backdate look

shawn908 01-10-2021 05:19 PM

When I first saw an image of this car (buggy) I thought it was missing 4 black vertical posts. Two up front and two in the back. With safety/locking pins. With an O.S. Max 21 engine underneath. Refs to 25,000rpm.

harv666 01-10-2021 05:39 PM

Looks like a traxxas rc car, nothing Porsche at all in this design, they don't know when to stop. They should just start building their own chassis and design their own car to make uglier with each attempt.

I can see why they did it- while their normal offerings are or were stunning, at this point once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. Don’t get me wrong, they changed the whole narrative of classic 911’s and those cars are astonishing but it feels
Like they’re on autopilot.

I’d liken this to any artist suddenly changing their style in an attempt to avoid being boxed in or to demonstrate their breadth.

While I’m not all that keen on this one, I’m excited to see what comes next, and after that, etc... frankly the unknown experiments are more interesting than yet another repeat that goes to 11.

skinnerd 01-10-2021 06:32 PM

The technology behind (or beneath) the car is stunning and very high tech. Visually they may have missed the mark especially the two forward facing fins at the front, but otherwise it is a very cool car to me. The video of it just launching itself across the wet sand is really amazing to watch. A very, very capable machine that sounds incredible. With Tuthill involved, you know the mechanics are sound.

jjeffries 01-10-2021 06:35 PM

Which model do they have to sacrifice to build this? Is it from their legendary stash of 964’s?

I wouldn’t mind seeing them moving on to, say, Cayennes or Panameras and leaving remaining, original air cooled 911’s - incl 964’s- the hell alone.

I think the fins are to keep water off the windshield when going thru puddles

the car is nice but I would rather have a class 10 buggy and go do the baja

Yeah agreed... Funny I saw a later model beetle today with bfg all terrains. My first thought when I saw this.

Yes - they're using the 964 chassis. I also wish they would leave air cooled 911s alone but as long as the money is there that's not happening. When available 964s dry up maybe they'll move on to G series cars or 993s. I hope not.

They started with Gbody cars and went to 964s for reasons of cost. Gbody, G50s are even harder to come by then 964s

taste is one thing.
same as pricing.

what I like about it, is the showing of ideas/designs and skills of a small scale manufacturer and it pushes the brands pedigree and brand-attention.

keeps the brands value high.

megerian 01-11-2021 05:36 AM

I find the whole thing very interesting, visually stunning, and a wonderful combination of functionality, engineering, and aesthetics. I am glad the companies like Singer are out these doing this kind of work. I actually saw #1 in person, just sitting in a Minnesota dealership, and they are understated elegance.
